The Gift of Dyslexia

Dyslexia A Gift in Disguise is for the busy parent who wants practical and easily accessible information. Learn about dyslexia and become an equal member of your child’s education team. The school system is holding the cards but with this information, you level the playing field!

#01 Red Flags

In this episode I’ll help you recognize some of the common signs that your child may be at risk for dyslexia, and give you the information that you need to begin advocating for your child. You will have the knowledge that you need when you are told to “wait and see”.

#02 Tier two

If your child has been identified as being at risk for a learning disability and receiving additional intervention within a tiered system of support here are the FOUR questions you’ll want to ask. Your school's Tiered system of support (RTI or MTSS) is meant to identify at-risk students and help them before they fail. Understand what these systems of support mean for your child so you can avoid the pitfalls.

#03 The Evaluation Game

If you’re one of the lucky ones whose child has received an evaluation, I will help you prepare for your first IEP meeting. Children with dyslexia typically qualify for special education services under Specific Learning Disabilities (SLD). If your child has dyslexia they have a 50 percent chance of having another related learning disability under SLD (frequently dysgraphia or dyscalculia). In this episode, I’ll tell you what you need to know about SLD so you are prepared for your initial IEP meeting.
