Once a child is diagnosed with dyslexia they can receive interventions and close the academic achievement gap. There is not adequate diagnosing and intervention in U.S. public schools. For example, it's estimated to be nearly 20% of the population has dyslexia, but the US public school system is providing special education services for 3-5% of the students. Due to a large volume of scientific research, we know that the way in which a dyslexic person processes language is different from that of a typical person.
